The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is back on US shores after a 56-day patrol at sea.
The Wilmington-based crew departed St. Petersburg, FL, on January 11 to conduct fisheries law enforcement and border security in the Gulf of Mexico. After the earthquake in Haiti, the crew was reassigned to operation southeast watch, a massive effort to stop Haitian migrants from coming to the US.
The crew also made the most their liberty time in Miami, arriving just in time for the super bowl.
The crew and the Diligence, which is currently undergoing several months of maintenance in Baltimore, are expected back in Wilmington by this summer.
