Doctors think Lyme disease can be caught in NC

READ MORE:
RALEIGH -- For years, doctors have said that people were unlikely to get Lyme disease in North Carolina. But that attitude is changing after the tick-borne disease was diagnosed this year in at least four patients who never left their home counties. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Thursday that the state epidemiologist, Dr. Megan Davies, is getting word to doctors, who have been reluctant to even test patients for Lyme disease. Davies says she and others are meeting with infectious disease doctors at state medical schools to spread the word. Lyme bacteria is carried on the black-legged tick, which appeared to feed on reptiles rather than mammals in Southern states. So it was considered unlikely that ticks would transmit the Lyme bacteria to humans in North Carolina. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

HUH...

Unlikely...I KNOW someone who got it trampsing around in the woods in a nearby county....that was 2 years ago...just shows doctors aren't exactly THAT smart sometimes...it's been around here for a WHILE now.

HUH? is right! I contracted

HUH? is right! I contracted Lymes 10 years ago in NC and personally knew 3 people who had it and we all lived in the same county. It took 10 months and nearly 10 doctors to get treated. I nearly died..and was laughed at and patronized when I asked for a titer test. I will forever have lingering affects from being untreated! After reading this today, now I see that it was no wonder I was ignored. Where have the medical "professionals" been? Something was wrong 10 years ago, and something is wrong now.
