The sky over the Battleship North Carolina was lit up Saturday night. The Thirteenth Annual Battleship Blast brought thousands of spectators to downtown Wilmington. The big Independence Day bash is the largest choreographed fireworks display in the Tar Heel State.

It was the largest crowd I have seen downtown on the 4th, many thousands. The weather was beautiful and the fireworks were awesome. Had a great time........

Hundreds???

The fireworks display Saturday night downtown was awesome, but there were not hundreds of people there....try THOUSANDS! Downtown was more crowded than I have ever seen it before. We arrived at 7:30pm and had to park in a CFCC lot on 2nd and Hanover Street. Never before have we had to park so far away. Good job Wilmington...I think a lot of us needed a little boost of patriotism!

Fireworks were amazing!

Not only were the fireworks amazing and a great boost to our moral, the police did an amazing job getting everyone out as quickly as possible from downtown! Way to go! we parked at "our place" at CFCC and were on MLK in less than 30 minutes! with all those thousands of people, that was amazing!

KUDOS to Wilmington PD!

Eventhough I've lived in Wilmington for 4 years- this year was the first July 4th where I ventured downtown. There were THOUSANDS of people there! One thing I was afraid of was getting back to Monkey Junction at a decent hour! I'm happy to say it only took about 15 minutes to get to my car on the top parking deck by the hilton and we made it home in 20 minutes!!! Kudos to Wilmington PD for allowing the flow to go smoothly and keeping it family friendly! I saw offiers everywhere and really felt that the whole day was well organized. No rowdy obnoxious intoxicated folks!!! YAY! I scouted out an even better spot for next year!
