Downtown Wilmington to test out taxi stands

Starting Friday night, taxis are going to have to get in line for their passengers. This weekend is the first test for a taxi stand in downtown Wilmington. Between midnight and 3:00 a.m., taxis will only be allowed on Princess Street between Front and Third. The taxi line is intended to alleviate congestion and increase safety for the late night bar crowd. Hell’s Kitchen owner Vincent Arcieri said, “Just the idea, it's convenient for our customers. I want to be able for them to have a convenient place to be able to wait for a cab when they want to get out of town, and I think this is the way to go.” The Wilmington Police Department will help block off the streets and help with crowd control. Wilmington downtown will test the idea Friday and Saturday night. If it is successful, the taxi stand could become a weekend regular.

GREAT plan. Paul Knight's

GREAT plan. Paul Knight's strong focus on our high crime rate during the campaign for Mayor, brought our crime problem home. But remember the police department needs community awareness and support to perform their best job.
