A social services investigation into the guardianship of a Tabor City teen with ties to RC Soles is now officially closed. As a result of questions raised by WWAY early last month, the Columbus County Department of Social Services began an investigation into whether 17-year-old Allen Strickland is a victim of neglect. Thursday we received word that the DSS found no evidence the teen has been neglected. Strickland has been in and out of jail recently for arson, leading police on a high speed chase, and violating house arrest. Prior to his run-in's with the law, Strickland had been living on his own in a house paid for by Senator Soles. According to North Carolina law, a child is supposed to have supervision until age 18. The actual status of his legal guardianship remains unclear.

Any word on the Soles investigation

Has anyone heard when Mr. Strickland's next court date is? Any word yet on the investigation regardng the shooting at Senator Soles Home? Investigation should have been completed by now it has been over a month.

Strickland next court date

Strickland next court date is oct. 7 th. As far as the shooting at soles u know that no charges will be brought against soles. Im so sick and tired of these boys going to jail for soles thank God i dont live in Tabor City.

Odd

Such an odd situation and definitely one I am tired of hearing about. He is obviously being taken care of and I think it would simply be a waste to have DSS get involved with anything involving a 17 year old who is obviously capable of living on his own...albeit while making bad choices. I'm surprised he simply hasn't just tried to become emancipated from his guardian by now. In any event he's a good looking guy...i'm sure he can find some other older man/woman to support him down the road!

This entire situation has

This entire situation has become so tedious. I think it should be clear by now that nothing is going to be done in this case. Even the charges against Strickland will probably drag out for a couple of years and then quietly fade away. And being young and foolish in my day did not translate to two different arson charges and leading cops on high speed chases. By the way, his grandmother should move him into her house if she is keeping an eye on him. I don't think she can see him well enough from where she is. If someone in this community steps up to the plate in the next election, I hope the residents have the sense to replace Mr. Soles and the DA as well. Unless you can generate some publicity on a national level to try and pressure authorities for some action, this circus will continue until they are voted out.

grandma

Grandma has done a very POOR job with this young man! He is an exception to the law. The reason he is so reckless is because he knows he can play by another set of rules than the rest of us!I forewarned people last month on this website that the DSS would not take action. They were strong armed by local political influence. If you were to spank your child in public, they would try to string you up on charges. The DSS has no credibility and neither does much of Columbus County! I am thankful I do not live in this backwood's hole!

DSS closes case on Allen Strickland

DSS has let the ball drop concerning Allen Strickland. DSS's thinking is why go to all this trouble whenever he turns 18 in about 2 months? This is a bad mentality on the social worker handling the case. First of all, look what has already taken place. Who knows what the future holds for Allen Strickland. DSS just wants him to reach the magical age of 18 so he will be out of their hair. The State of North Carolina might have funding problems, but we're talking about a human being here who has had no guidance from his legal guardians, his grandmother or anyone else but Senator RC Soles, Jr. Allen's grandmother has already lost one grandson. If she is supposed to be helping Allen, I'd hate to see what an enemy would do to him. The legal guardians had to go before a judge and let the judge give them legal guardianship over Allen, so they should have to do the same to reverse the situation for it to be legal. DSS or the state, I should say, does not want to spend money unnecessarily. This type of situation is very tricky and tact should be used due to a minor being involved. Senator Soles knew all about Allen's legal guardian situation. He thought he could sneak this on through, but WWAY has done such a fine job uncoverning the facts. I don't see how DSS in Columbus County should be allowed to pick and choose who or for what reason reason they let a child come home.

Wow...

YOU NO PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING BETTER ELSE TO DO. OBVIOSLY HE WAS NOT NEGLECTED HE HAS A HOUSE A CAR AND A LOAD OF MONEY HE WAS DEFINATELY TAKING CARE OF. AND IT BEEN NDER THE RUG BECAUSE WITH THE GOVERNMENT AND WHOEVER ELSE ITS ABOUT "MONEY". WHY DONT U LOOK AND FIND KIDS THAT ARE REALLY NEGLECTED AND DONT HAVE ANY SUPERVISION THAT NEED IT. HE IS 17 YEARS OLD HE SHOULD BE MATURE ENOUGH THAT SOMEBODY DONT HAVE TO LOOK AFTER HIM.PEOPLE FIND SUMTHANG ELSE TO WORRY ABOUT THATS WORTH WORRYING ABOUT

Soles all Heated up

Brianna - Let's just suppose that 15 year old girl is moved out of her home by an older man furnishing her with a house of her own, a car, spending money etc. According to the law that is a crime. Particularly if it could be proven that there was intent to receive sexual favors on the part of the older man. And remember, sexual favors does not have to be anything other than sexual gratification. It could be fantasy. DSS has done a poor job, but then again it isn't a law enforcement agency and as I understand it, there are a couple of agencies poking their noses around. Soles will have his day, more than likely in the same cell as his boy Frog, or one just like him. Now go tend to your baby and work on that GED.

Strickland

Strickland's grandmother has been looking after him. He is not neglected. The tone of some of the commentators on this subject is shrill and vociferous. I think a little more empathy and objectivity is in order. All of us have been young and foolish, and we have all made mistakes. "There but by the grace of God . . ." Reflect upon it, and you will be more generous in your spirit.

confused

If his Grandmother looks after him why did Soles have to buy him a house?? Your story makes NO sense.

Smells like politics!!!!!

DSS is totally corrupt!

DSS

Or Controlled!

Is Anyone Surprised?

Where does DSS get its funding? Raleigh. Who is a Big Dog in Raleigh? You folks who thought you would see Blood Letting out of Senator Soles need to look again.

Continue

Well if they say so. It looks like abandoned and neglected to most everyone else! And why have we not heard from the SBI on the RC saga. Are they waiting for people to forget so they can sweep it under the carpet as in the past?

RIGHT

"Thursday we received word that the DSS found no evidence the teen has been neglected. " He certainly has not been neglected. Boy had a home, car and all the cash he could spend. His only problem was being raised in a bad environment, being misguided and let loose to a become a self destructive twit. He should be in a boys home or foster care.

foster care

you say that allen should have been put in foster care or boys home. Let give you a little insight to both of them, i have worked with childern that have been in foster care most of the time these childern are lost in the cracks of our justice system.i can remember one little girl who was sexauly abuse at home by family members and put in foster home after foster home and she was being sexauly abuse in these foster home by the men in these home. Thank God that Allens grandmother tryed to keep him and his sister together even though the grandmother is very sick she tryed. Some times no matter how hard we try we all make mistake being young. In stead of people putting Allen down ask each and everyone of yourselfs did you know this boy or his family personaly and if you do did you step up and offer to help in anyway. I have always been taught that it takes a community to raise a child so everyone in Tabor City ask yourself did i do my part in helping raise this boy. Most of you will answer no to this.

neglected

Anyone that chronically stays in trouble has been neglected. The DSS in Columbus County is INCOMPETENT! A back woods mentality prevails! He has no supervision and is under the age of 18.He should be placed in foster care ,you morons!

Strickland

This whole story makes me sick. This child, which he is, is screaming out for attention and help. DSS must be receiving funds from RC Soles also since he seems to hand out cash so easily. This kid is underage, should not be living alone, driving a corvette and out of school. He needs to be in a boys home, a foster home, etc. Why we have a Senator that is not being investigated after giving his "clients" money and shooting someone is beyond me and I seriously think that maybe some national news networks need to get this story - Nancy Grace would love to do some work on this story I am sure.

If you think Nancy Grace

If you think Nancy Grace would love to do some work on this story - THEN CALL HER

Everyone knew that DSS would

Everyone knew that DSS would not do anything about this case with frog. But,if it was any other child they would have taken them into foster care.He is under age.And they should treat him like any other child.I was wondering why we never heard DSS say anything about this case on the news. But,I grant you it would be another story if it was someone eles.It has gotten swept under the rug and that is the way that wanted it.Just, like with the shooting that happened it will also be under the rug.Funny, how no charges have been filed on this case.Let, it be me or you and see where we would be sitting at.

enough

Enough with this kid, find a child that is really negelected. Boo hoo strickland.

I agree - this story is

I agree - this story is getting drawn out! enough already
