East Bladen Lady Eagles ready for state championship game Saturday

READ MORE: East Bladen Lady Eagles ready for state championship game Saturday
Excitement is brewing at East Bladen High School. The girls varsity basketball team will be playing in the 1A state championship game tomorrow in Raleigh. East Bladen is the only area high school still playing hoops this season. You think the East Bladen Eagle fan base is excited about being in the 1A state championship game? You bet they are. The Lady Eagles earned the trip to the state title game last Saturday when they beat Weldon in Greenville for the eastern regional title. "To only have five coming back from last year. We set a standard for ourselves because we want to be in Greenville every year and these girls know that because they were in the stands when they were younger and they know what it takes to put on that uniform,” said Head Coach Patty Evers. "To still be playing at this point, that's what you practice for in the off-season and that's why you play all those regular season games,” added Assistant Coach Jack West. East Bladen will face perennial power Bishop McGuinness in Raleigh on Saturday. Bishop has captured the state championship the last 3 seasons, including a shellacking of East Bladen in the state finals two years ago. "They beat us the last time we played them by 37. That was two years ago. Again, we have a different team. They have a different team,” Coach Evers said. Tune in Saturday for game highlights on WWAY.
