WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- UNCW education majors put their knowledge to the test this semester, but not on campus. An innovative program has college students tutor at Snipes Academy in Wilmington to gain teaching experience and help the community.
Tutors wanted to bring a fresh approach to the classroom to help their students and make lessons a good time.
Today, students and teachers celebrated their time together.
"We got to take them out of their norm every day, and, at least with my group, we started out with just a fun activity to get them loose and excited and get all their energy out," UNCW junior Stephanie Raddatz said. "And I just hope that helped them learn a little bit and focus more where they needed to focus and getting them out of their nervous environment really helped, because we're new teachers. They were more excited every day, and hopefully they were more attentive."
The Snipes students agreed that the UNCW tutors made learning more enjoyable.
