Elections chair to face commissioners

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Election Day is over, but the New Hanover County Board of Elections still has its hands full. After some problems with voting Tuesday, the chairman of the board is ready to face the music.

New Hanover County Commissioners sent a signed letter inviting Board of Elections chair Tommy Guinn to the next commission meeting. Guinn says he will be there. Guinn is preparing to show up and make a statement at the County Commission meeting November 15.

Commission chair Jason Thompson says he wants Guinn to explain what exactly happened on election day to avoid mishaps on future election days. New Hanover County made news across the state by using the wrong ballots at two of its voting locations. Thompson says he also plans to discuss the Election Day review process with Guinn.

New Hanover County Elections Director Bonnie Williams says the board is busy canvassing the election results. The official results are due November 12 at 11 a.m.

How about face investigators from the State Board of Elections?

May not provide as much media coverage for the Commissioners; but it will sure send a clear message that voting irregularities will not be tolerated in the future.
