E-mail leads to tiff between school board members

A New Hanover County School Board member is demanding an apology from a fellow member of the board after a misunderstanding online.

Nick Rhodes says he thought Janice Cavenaugh was using the school system's public relations staff to notify the media about her reelection campaign. So he sent out an e-mail saying what she did was unethical and possibly illegal and suggested that Cavenaugh be publicly reprimanded.

As it turns out, the only thing Cavenaugh got from the PR staff was an e-mail contact list for the media, and she sent out the reelection announcement herself.

Today Cavenaugh sent out another e-mail to Wilmington reporters and school board members asking Rhodes to retract his e-mail.

Rhodes told WWAY the next time he sees Cavenaugh, he will apologize.

WHY IS IT WHEN A BLACK PERSON ACCUSSES SOMEONE OF SOMETHING IT IS NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL...NO NEWS COVERAGE, PARADES, RIOTS ETC. BUT IF A WHITE PERSON HAD SAID SOMETHING ABOUT RHODES OH MY GOD...AL SHARPEN WOULD HAVE FLOWN IN...COME ON PEOPLE I THOUGHT BAMA OBAMA WAS GOING TO BRING US ALL TOGETHER...WHAT...HE HAS ONLY SEPARATED US MORE.

Another piece of democrat garbage. He would do well in the naacp stirring up crap that isn't true. RDF

Nick Rhodes is modeling his behavior after our Commander in Thief, Barry Obama, who rushed to judgment before having a clear understanding of the facts.I am endorsing Mr. Rhodes candidacy for the local chapter of the NAACP presidency. This would be perfect platform for you to continue to attack the school board with very few facts at hand. The organization could utilize your talent for stirring controversy.

Maybe Nick Rhodes should be more concerned with the under performing and dismal outlook of the school system.

Of course, when it's time to publicly criticize and cast dispersions he feels quite at home doing it in a grand fashion.

However, when it's time to apologize and set the matter straight, he'll make a private apology.

He should resign and take full responsibility for his outrageous behavior.

His position on the board, with his grandstanding and false accusations have no place in this community.

Be a man and resign. However since he's at the public trough, I don't expect he has the ethical requirements to do the right thing.

Maybe he should be informed, or get the facts before making slanderous and hateful claims while a board member.

What a sorry public spectacle he has become.

Resign, Resign, Resign, and publicly apologize for your blatant, inflammatory, and despicable behavior.

Sounds like a rush to judgment from Mr. Rhodes.

They whole Board should resign for the good of the community.

Seeing as how Nick Rhodes thought Janice Cavenaugh should be publicly reprimanded and he made that thought public through his email, why isn't he going to make a public apology for his slanderous comments?

Libel not slander.
