Employers seek workers at Asheville event

ASHEVILLE -- Despite the daily news of layoffs, some North Carolina companies are now looking for workers. The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that manufacturing, health care and insurance companies are expected to participate in a job fair Tuesday at Asheville's Biltmore Square Mall. Alice Briggs of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce says more than 1,000 jobseekers and 54 employers are expected to attend. The Homecoming Job Fair was started three years ago to draw back to Western North Carolina former residents who were visiting family for the holidays, though anyone looking for a job or to change careers is welcome. The jobs can range from entry level positions starting at $8 an hour up to $65,000 a year or more for professional positions. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
