Energy costs may increase

High gas prices make everything from travel to food more expensive. We may be adding electricity to that list. Progress Energy wants a statewide rate increase that would boost the average monthly electricity bill by more than sixteen percent. The company said Friday the increase is needed to cover rising fuel costs at company power plants. The change still needs to be approved by the state utility commission before it goes into effect.

when are we going to find out why the cost is going up. instead of saying it is fuel. why is fuel going up? don't bandad the problem fix it. Progress energy doesn't need any more money please. we send this price increase after Katrina and they said it was because of the hurricane, but then why does on 25% of the oil come from the gulf coast? think about this people and lets stand and say enough is enough

I WISH I could get a 16% salary increase...which is what this amounts to for them....The problem we are battling right now is that all these costs are going up faster than our pay check increases. I get a nice 5% raise...Health Insurance, Taxes and Home Owners Insurance come and take it..PLUS SOME

I call BS....this rise isn't going to last forever. It WILL get to a breaking point at some point. However, that 16 percent won't EVER go away once it goes up. They will keep it. If any state elected official votes YES for this...THEY WILL BE HISTORY!

I agree

I agree and all of you voted mike easly is wanting to raise taxes even more and i am still waiting for the temp. sales tax increase to be be gone that has been there permantly not temp. as lyin mike backward robin hood steals from the poor to give to the rich easly (easly-weasly)

Goes to show you!

This is just par for the course. The state with allow this because they get tax money from the raise in cost. When will this stop with the gas making every thing else go up?
