WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A tax free holiday this weekend that saves you cash and energy. In an effort to help customers conserve energy and Christmas money, stores all over North Carolina will not tax items with the blue Energy Star logo.
Making your home more energy efficient cuts costs now and could raise its resale value later.
"I have three children myself, so I know the actual benefit in Energy Star, in saving the water in the washing machines, so it's huge. It adds up," said Jen Mongelli, a manager at Home Depot in Wilmington. "You don't really know it until you start looking at your energy, electric bill."
The claim from the government and some manufacturers: Energy Star approved washers cut energy costs by 30 percent and water usage by 50 percent.
The tax holiday lasts through Sunday. Many retailers, including Home Depot, have sales to go along with the tax break.
