Ex-state official to teach community college class

READ MORE:
BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- Former state Agriculture Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps will teach a community college course that is similar to one she taught in prison. Phipps was sentenced to four years in federal prison for taking illegal campaign contributions. She was released last spring, several months early. Phipps will teach a course on women in American history at Alamance Community College. The community college course is part of a program that allows students to transfer to four-year universities. Phipps's family donated much of the land where the community college is located. The course is similar to one she taught at the federal prison in West Virginia where she served her sentence. College President Martin Nadelman says Phipps' guilty plea and prison time weren't an issue in hiring her. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
