Fans disappointed by Lil Wayne no-show

READ MORE: Fans disappointed by Lil Wayne no-show

WILMINGTON -- New Hanover High School's Brogden Hall was supposed to be filled with the sounds of rap artist Lil Wayne performing Sunday night. Instead, it was filled with the cries of angry fans.

Fans waited for Lil Wayne to take the stage, but the performer was a no-show, leaving fans demanding answers.

Lil Wayne fan Ashley Perrymon said, "I said, mommy, I ain't worried about nothing. I already bought my ticket and everything. I made sure I was coming."

And so were cops.

New Hanover County Sheriff Sid Causey said, "We don't think we have too many, and if we do, I'd rather have too many than not enough."

The Sheriff's Department said they expected a full house Sunday night. They made arrangements to keep watch over more than 4,000 people. But by nine o'clock only a fraction of that filled Brogden Hall.

Lil Wayne never showed up. And fans didn't take it lightly.

NewsChannel 3 heard unconfirmed reports that Lil Wayne didn't perform because he wasn't happy with the turnout and that the concert had not generated enough money.

No word yet if concert-goers will receive a refund.

Lil Wayne in the news again

Lil Wayne has just been arrested, again, for drugs. During the bust, LEO found ecstacy, marijuana, and cocaine. He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Where are all of his supporters now???

Nice young man...

Yea a real credit to society. Come on I know somebody has an excuse for him.

lilweenie

Many people have excuses but I have not seen one real excuse. Hes just a loser.

wanna hear some real music

if you do go buy yourself some lynrd skynrd.they may even give you a confederate flag decal in the cd case.

damn weezy..

I'm a Lil Wayne fan and I was reading about this on GlobalGrind.com and it upsets me that one of Hip-Hop's most promising artists has stooped so low. Yes, I understand Lil Wayne is about his paper, but he has millions, and I thought he did music because he loved performing for people?

A SIMPLE SOLUTION

A CHALLENGE To Lil Wayne... (If your reading this Bro, Look forward this post being forwarded too TMZ). The "DUKE" Lineberry.. Including NEW HANOVER COUNTY... Wayne/Stan Da Man took your money and ran, Just like in the Steve Miller band song, "Go'on take the money and Run!"....Wooo hooo hoooo! Lil Wayne, If you have ANY respect for YOUR fans AND YOURSELF, and PROMOTING NON-VIOLENCE... respect... COME BACK TOO WILMINGTON... NEXT Spring, during Alzea Fest... DO a *free* concert on the WATERFRONT... CREATING Harmony/Divirsity while, DEFEATING the racsim that SHOULDN'T be here in OUR FAIR City... It's a very, very sad note/post's on the "other" thread, "what" our city is, still is, is BECOMEING, OLD HABIT'S never DIE huh?... This is something WE TOGETHER MUST CHANGE.. I'm ASHAMED that I read post's such as I did.. Though FREE SPEACH and NO CENSORSHIP is a great thing right? Wilmington JUST SHOWED it's "true" "COLORS".... EVERYONE IS ENTITLED to THEIR OPINIONS... Though some I did MANAGE TOO, (before deletion), read, make Me ashamed too live here... I don't know really what else too say.. Some think Wilmington is a PROGRESSIVE CITY... Apparently NOT.. (excuse the spelling).. CT

Don't worry...he won't read

Don't worry...he won't read your post. That's a given.

Quit crying

How many of you thug wannabe's called Mommy and Daddy a few weeks ago when you were scared and wanted to go to your safe little homes when you thought there might have been a gunman in your school? So which is it? Do you want to be protected or shot dead on the street school street corner in the name of thugism? You can't have both!

Sue the Thug

I agree the City Attorney should stand up and sue for all that was spent to handle this concert that never happened. It made me sick to see Lineberry (their attorney) rocked back in his chair behind his desk with a smirk on his face because New Hanover County had been taken. Pollard would win. With Lineberry as their Attorney, they have nothing. Lil Wayne himself probably couldn't get the "Duke" to call him back. Someone should pay for all the money spent on Law Enforcement officers and New Hanover employees that had to prepare for this farce. Mr. Lineberry seemed to know that if he didn't sell enough tickets that he would not perform. Shame on him for screwing his community.

Thats pretty sad, yo. Little

Thats pretty sad, yo. Little Wayne didnt care about the ones who showed up at all. I guess loyal fans dont matter as much as the almighty dollar. He was already there. Why not perform for the true fans who paid to see him? Little Wayne is a rotten jerk.

I bet youll see

I BET YOULL SEE STAN DA MAN DRIVING AROUND IN A 08 BENZ NEXT WEEK OR IN CHILD SUPPORT COURT TO PAY OFF HIS BACK CHILD SUPPORT. HE GOT YOULL MONEY TO PAY OFF HIS CHILD SUPPORT AND EVERYONE IBN WILMINGTON SHOULD KNOW THAT BY KNOW IF YOU DONT NOW YOU DO

WELL FOR ONE MY DAD HAD A

WELL FOR ONE MY DAD HAD A CADDY AND MONEY AND OTHER CARS WAY B4 THIS LIL WAYNE CONCERT VEN JUMPED OFF....SO YOU CAN STOP HATING HONEY =] AND IF YOU THAT WORRIED ABOUT HIS CHILD SUPPORT HOW ABOUT YOU GO TRY AND PAY SOME OF IT OFF FOR HIM!

i bet you'll see

last i checked stan-da-man had a nice caddy before the concert. so stop hatin. on my peeps

The school board should have

The school board should have to pay. Not because Little Wayne deserves anything, but as punishment for considering having this garbage in a taxpayer owned facility in the first place.

IF IT WAS A WHITE ARTIST

IF IT WAS A WHITE ARTIST THERE WOULD BE NO CONTRAVERSY

Yup

YOUR RIGHT BUBBA GUMP...cause they would have most likely played for a crowd of 100, because that is the RIGHT thing to do. Little WayneR doesn't know what the RIGHT thing to do is, OBVIOUSLY. Your fans are what matters, but not to this gangsta...GLAD he didn't play, poison for todays youth.

lil wayne

if he was white...thats b.s he stiffed his fans

Race card

And here we have it ladies and gentleman, the race card has been played...this "lil wayne is a scumbag gang member punk....he should be banned from even coming into North Carolina at all.

Thug Head

Yeah Right.... Well one thing is for sure, us white people don't have singers out here singing about drive bys, rape, etc... Go stand on the street corner with all of your little thug lifes, get your government check and enjoy your life.. SHut Up Thug Life...Wanna Be...

white guy

If he was white there probably would have been no threat of gang bangers with guns, drugs & violence either. If he was not an admitted gang member with multiple drug arrests there would have been no C-O-N-T-R-O-V-E-R-S-Y TO start with. Lil Duh- Wayne brought all of this on himself for being a thug, thats NOT our fault. There are a lot of rappers that are decent people. Dumb azz Wayne should market himself in a good way by being a decent human being.

Wow...again, wayne

If you didn't spend all your time listening to lil wank, you might be able to spell a tad better. Or you could just blame whitey for holding your spelling book down. They both seem to work these days.

Don't believe it

Like any "act" who gets booked to perform, Lil Wayne got a guarantee. He wasn't playing for the door money- he was guaranteed a certain amount of money to perform, no matter who/how many showed up. When he saw that no one came to the show, he cancelled on his few fans. Shows you what a professional Lil Wayne is. He was going to rap or lip-sync over a tape, which is basically karoke- not much in the way of overhead costs (no band to pay, etc.) A lesson for the kids who showed up: next time, chose to support a REAL artist, rapper or musician. Believe me, three years from now you couldn't get $2 for a used Lil Wayne CD.

lil wayne

FIRST OFF LET ME CLARIFY THAT WAYNE AND ANY OTHER ARTIST ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BOOKING THERE OWN SHOWS THE PEOPLE THAT PAY THEM MONEY TO COME AND PERFORM ARE CALLED PROMOTERS THERE JOB IS TO SHOW UP AND SING THATS IT...THEY HAVE NO SAY IN WHERE A CONCERT IS HELD, HOW MUCH THE TICKETS COST, WHAT TIME IT STARTS NONE OF THAT. an easy way to think of it where every1 should be able to understand is like hiring a magician for a kids birthday party, your throwing a party for your kid you want a magician you go in the phonebook pick one out all they do is show up an do their magic they aren't responsible for any other aspect of the party but if he shows up an you dont pay him he isn't gonna do his act now is he... same thing with concerts! the blame lies on the promoter for the show...im not sure many of you understand how putting a concert together works but im a venue promoter in Chicago. 1st off wayne is a busy man who is on tour right now. a promoter calls him an wants to put on a show, he charges 30,000 to do an appearance. wayne dont care if its for 1 person or 1 million people his price is 30,000. its the promoters job to give him that money usually half upfront when the arrangement is made an the other half before the show. now this promoters job is to secure a location, advertise, promote hence the title promoter... and provide necessary incidentals example: security, hotel accomodations etc. promoters have the opportunity to make alot of money putting on a good concert, let me break it down 30,000 wayne 5,000 venue 10,000 promotional items advertising fliers printing tickets etc ruffly 45,000 total in turn, he sells tickets for however much, i saw a lady spent 150 for 2 tickets so he charged 75 bucks a ticket multiply by the 2500 that someone claims were sold an you have over 180,000 potential income a profit of over 140 now if wayne would have went along an did the show without gettin his money whoever the promoter was woulda pocketed all that money so somethin ain't right with this story, the promoter couldn't have sold out the tickets he was probably trying to sell them at the door not in advance (armature move) or he did a real shitty job of advertising cause he didnt pay wayne his money wayne stopped what he was doin made a detour in his BUSY schedule an traveled to this city *that cost him money* than he supposed to get on stage an perform for free yeah right! blame that foul promoter not wayne

Re: Don't Believe It

Both "ILM" and "Actually There" have it right. This is the way productions work. What I'd like to add is that Hip Hop is a form of musical expression like it or not. It has a wide following and is a boom for the music industry. Banning it, censoring it or limiting its content is nothing more than Big Brother control. Maybe that radical Beethoven should be censored too. Doesn't anyone remember the preachers burning Rock records in the late 60's? Or John Denver and Frank Zappa going heads up against Tipper Gore and the United States Senate? IT'S JUST WORDS FOLKS. Gang activity may be fueled by music and style but the root cause is the way Americans are being pushed down. In case anyone hasn't noticed, all but a very few good blue collar jobs are left because of Corporate America. Lots of these people who follow Hip Hop see no future. Their answer is to rebel. Heck, the gang lifestyle treats these people better than a most blue collar options available. Get a life if you think they can afford college. If you want this to stop, go up against free trade and globalization. You'll make a difference. Please also remember that lots of the jabs taken here are only trolls wishing to stir the mud. Great job trollies!

they should have known that

they should have known that if they money wasn't rite to not ask him to come i would have done the same thing if that happened to me so i say he aint wrong and they should be getting mad with the people that was suppose to pay him not lil wayne as i see it he didn't do nothing wrong so they need to stop with all that stuff

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne tellin' nothin' but the truth. He say he's a playa & he played you. Give the man credit---he honest!

Same thing happened years

Same thing happened years ago When Biggie Smalls was supposed to perform at NHHS. He no-showed, and people lost their money.

Lil Wayne No Show

Its kinda messed up that ya'll doggin lil wayne like dat...I know someone else who brought young joc down here...he payed joc what he wanted and he came...same things goes wit lil wayne...if you dnt have your money right when they come of course they wont perform...this is not his hometown...its probably not even a place he's familiar wit...so money is an issue...maybe if the concert wouldnt have been cancelled at first then maybe more tickets wouldve been sold...and you cant say that artists wont show...cuz young joc did...its expensive to get rappers to come so if ppl cant afford it then they shouldnt try to promote it...hopefully that person that got young joc to come will be able to get lil wayne to come back...atleast he had his money right...

Even with the cancellation,

Even with the cancellation, they had over a week to sell tickets. Garth Brooks sold out two concernts on his comeback tour within 2 hours. Don't blame the school board or LEO for this thugs low turnout. He got what he deserved, and so did everyone who stood up for him. Good luck getting your money back. The last concert he stood up was over 2 months ago and they are still fighting to get their money back
