Fatal accident in Brunswick County

READ MORE:

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A 20-year-old man is dead after a fatal car accident on Highway 133.

The victim, Anthony Burgess, died after the driver, Efird Johnson, lost control of the car around a curve. The Cadillac overturned near Belville on 133 a few minutes after 3:30 this morning.

State Troopers say alcohol and speed were contributing factors. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.

The 26-year-old driver sustained no major injuries and was taken to jail. He has been released, and criminal charges are pending until after the investigation is complete.

Truly Tragic

A young man lost his life needlessly due to the careless of another. Young people as well as old need to think before they drink and drive and on top of that speed. Too many lives have been lost due to this type of neglect. I am sure that all the parties involved are deeply hurt and regret this incident. None the less due to the drivers negligence and recklessness he should be punished. Because of that someone lost a best friend, a brother, a son, a grandson, a cousin. I give my sympathy and condolences to both families.

Another senseless death

Our condolences to the family of Anthony Burgess. This is an awful thing to experience. The loss of a child devastates a family. When a young person is killed, you lose the future you would have had. Two families lives changed forever.... God Bless you all.

A GREAT LOSS

I KNOW BOTH THESE GUYS VERY WELL. YESTERDAY WAS A HARD DAY FOR BOTH FAMILIES. THEY WERE THE BEST OF FRIENDS AND THIS WAS A HORRIBLE THING THAT HAPPENED. THEY WERE TOGETHER ALL THE TIME. ANTHONY WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AND CHERISHED DEEPLY. EFIRD, IS A GOOD MAN WITH SUCH A GOOD HEART. IT WAS JUST A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT AND NOW ONE OF OUR FRIENDS IS GONE. BUT HE IS STILL SMILING DOWN FROM HEAVEN UPON US! EFIRD, MAN, YOU CAN GET THRU THIS, THAT WAS YOUR HOMEBOY, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR ROLL DOG. BUT WE ALL KNOW HE WOULD WANT YOU TO BE STRONG AND CONQUER THE OBSTACLES AHEAD OF YOU NOW. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU.
