Federal funds dispersed by McIntyre

READ MORE: Federal funds dispersed by McIntyre

Congressman Mike McIntyre made the rounds of Brunswick and New Hanover counties with giant checks in hand. The Congressman's visit was especially exciting in Navassa. For some time, the town of Navassa has had to store their fire trucks outside because there isn't enough garage space to house them inside the fire station. So for a small community, this funding means more than some may think. That's what Congressman Mike McIntyre heard as he presented the town of Navassa with a big fat check. "When they say stimulus, we were starting to wonder where the money was, but we got our share today and I’m feeling really, really good,” said Mayor Eulis Willis. McIntyre was please to deliver the funds saying, "Fire stations help everybody, they're not just for one specific group, but it’s to help an entire community so we're very excited about what that means for this area." "I think the whole community is elated that we see our hard work and that we get a result,” said Geraldine Hall of Navassa. There is $1.6 million dedicated to go toward a brand new firehouse plus $400,000 for the town's community development. Residents say investing in Navassa, is an investment that's worthwhile. Geraldine's Hall’s house burnt down almost a year ago. She says she's happy the fire department got the money they deserve because now herself, and the rest of Navassa's residents can be confident that the fire department can continue to do their job. "We need the manpower, and the guys and all the equipment to get to that place,” she said. The fire department says they had a hard time putting out the flames in Hall's home, because there were multiple rekindles. Although all that's left is rubble and memories, Hall is still forever grateful. "It serves the community real well, whenever there is a fire they always go, whenever there is an accident, they're always present."

Weak argument

Mike McIntyre has an obligation to debate his opponent each election regardless of whether he is a front runner or not! He does not want to get pinned down in a public forum where he has no control over the issues. He is a career politician , who has no intentions of stepping down from public office. He has grown accustomed to life inside the beltway and has no interest in practicing law. He took a knee after his first term in office! He hopes an uninformed electorate continues to vote him into office.

PORK BARREL MIKE

The only time you hear from PORK BARREL MIKE is when he is getting positive media coverage ! He is career politician , who is trying to make it to each election cycle . When election time comes around ,he will not be seen. He would not debate Will Breazeale in the last election to discuss the issues that effect Southeastern N.C.If he has such an accomplished record of legislative achievement , he would have no concerns of debating anyone. He touts himself as a Blue Dog Democrat but repeatedly votes along party lines. The Democratic Party that he is now associated with has been hijacked by the far-left extremist. Money grows on trees for these folks and they live in Utopia. His party operates under the premise that we will spend our way to prosperity! They decide how money will be redistributed and will sprinkle a few crumbs here and there to give people the impression that BIG GOVERNMENT is working for them.

I don't blame him for not

I don't blame him for not debating. If I remember right, he was an odds-on favorite to win the election. In a case like that, there is benefit to debating. If had done well, he still would have been the front-runner. If he had a bad night and was perceived as losing the the debate, it would only help his opposition. There was no up side to his campaign, and since he was trying to win the race, he wouldn't want to do anything that might help his opponent. In a football analogy, say your team is ahead with time running out. You could do nothing (take a knee) and go home with a W. Or you could run a play. Why would you run a play when that opens the door to the posibility of a fumble or interception? That would only serve to give the other team an opportunity to make a play and take the lead from you. Same thing when your a strong leader in the polls. You do nothing that gives your opponent a chance to take that lead away.

McIntyre

Oops...meant to say "In a case like that, there is 'no' benefit to debating."

Hollywood Mike and the fake checks?

If he insists on putting his name on the PR checks, then the agencies should present those checks for deposit at their banks. The money being dispersed is OUR money, funneled through the government. If Mike wants to put his name on the checks, then he should be prepared to match OUR funds with HIS funds. Or is this another broken promise from Hollywood Mike? Remember his "only 4 term" promise?

Sugar Daddy McIntyre

Mike sure does love having his picture taken while handing out giant novelty checks. Maybe he's rehearsing for a "Price is Right" gig for his post-Congressional days. I guess he gets a thrill out of passing out OTHER PEOPLES MONEY. It's too bad he doesn't put as much effort into other things like reducing government waste or reading the bills he votes for. We need to vote every single one of these incumbents out of office. Career politicians like McIntyre are why this country is going down the tubes.

re: Sugar Daddy Mike

Would you rather our tax dollars go to others outside eastern NC? Not an attack on you just thinking out loud.

No...

I understand the concept of "earmarks" very well. If Mike had any integrity he would have at least voted against the bill. You can still earmark spending even if you were fundamentally opposed to it and voted accordingly. My problem is that they take the money from you so they can redistribute it as they see fit. It usually gets used to buy support - which is what you see Mike doing above. How is any of this spending going to generate production? And yes, Mike voted FOR the stimulus bill that added another trillion dollars worth of debt onto the back of the American taxpayer. He must be a student of Zimbabwe-style economic theory. You can't spend your way into prosperity. The best thing government can do to help "stimulate" the economy would be to cut spending, eliminate useless bureaucracies, and stop shaking down the American people.

I don't know what 'he'd rather"....

...but I'd rather that every one of the 435 idiots got so tightfisted that they squeezed every penny until Lincoln cried.
