RALEIGH -- Federal investigators have issued subpoenas for communication between former North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley's staff and the Division of Motor Vehicles in preparation for a grand jury session next week. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Friday that a subpoena this week calls for all communications documents between the DMV and former high-level Easley aides and appointees. A federal grand jury has been investigating issues surrounding Easley, whose term ended in January. Easley has said he is comfortable that authorities are looking into his years in office. The subpoena seeks documents issued since Jan. 1, 2000. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
