Many festival-goers came out to the sixth annual Oktoberfest celebration for very specific reasons. Festival-goer Bob Witkowski said German beer brought him to Oktoberfest. Tatnall Hurtt was also at the festival. He said, "We came out for good German beer and some music" Oktoberfest is the one time each year people can partake in everything German. There's music and food and of course, the beer. Volunteer Sandra Cox said, "We have children activities all day tomorrow so it's not just about drinking the beer, although we have great German beer, and we have wonderful entertainment. Every year it just keeps getting better and better." Event coordinator Barbara Birkenheuer says besides the food and the fun Oktoberfest is geared towards a good cause. All the proceeds from the festival will be donated to the Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity. Birkenheuer said, "Our intent is to build an Oktoberfest house, just as we did last year." Mayor Bill Saffo already found the time to attend the festival. Hundreds of others are expected to join in the fun before it's all over. WWAY-TV3 is a sponsor of the event. The festivities will continue till nine p.m. Friday, and start up again at 11 Saturday morning, and run until nine p.m.
