Film crews hoping to see local show picked up

WILMINGTON -- Local film crews are hoping a new TV show will be picked up by a major network. Crews were filming for the television show "Whittaker Bay" Sunday afternoon in Carolina Beach. They've already shot five episodes. Former Dawson's Creek star John Wesley Shipp is directing three of them. Shipp also stars in the series. The show is about a group of teens at a cross-road in their lives. Producers say a number of networks are interested in picking up the show including ABC Family. They hope to have "Whittaker Bay" on the air by October.

i absolutely

i absolutely loooooooooooooooove whittaker bay it a awsome show i hope you come back for another season thanks

Two questions about the studio

The first one isn't necessarily about the studio, per se, but about the writer's strike. Who, exactly, do the writers work for? Are they independent contractors or are they actually employees of the production company? Second, and this one is about Wilmington movie production: Has the unionization of workers at the Wilmington studio killed the goose that laid the golden egg? In the late Eighties/early Nineties we had producers lining up and clamouring for space at the studio because it was SO much cheaper than shooting on the West Coast. I now hear that it's "not so much cheaper, any more" and that lots of other filming locations have support workers who will work for a lot less. Will anyone who KNOWS the answer respond, please?

Thank you to those who have posted positive comments on the show. We really appreciate you giving the show and its creators a chance. We could not have produced this without our community's support, and we thank all of you that helped make this possible. Hopefully "Whittaker Bay" will help open some doors for the Wilmington film industry and for us. Thanks again!!
