WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A family left homeless. The family's pets lost in the blaze.

The fire destroyed a mobile home off Greenville Loop Road in Wilmington this morning. The two people who lived inside were not home.

Five dogs and one cat died. Another dog is still missing.

Firefighters had a little trouble getting to the fire because their hoses were not long enough. They could not go inside the trailer to rescue the pets because it was not safe.

"Conditions of fire and smoke were too heavy, and the floor had deteriorated," Capt. Thomas Dolan of the Wilmington Fire Department said. "There was no floor structure for the firefighters to crawl into. It was just entirely too dangerous."

Firefighters say the blaze started because a kitchen appliance was left on.

Wouldn't surprise me if New Hanover County Fire is taking over Wilmington Fire too? They seem to like being in the headlines!

Man that was some accurate reporting.....NOT

it was 3 dogs and two cats with a little red pomerainian by the name of gizmo that is missing.if found please call 910-685-3524.ray.It was my son's dog.

Did you find him yet if not I will keep a look out and have others too

It was the Wilmington Fire Dept. that responded to the fire on Greenville loop road today. It was not the New Hanover County Fire Dept.

Who cares!!! Somebody's pet die in a fire and all you care about is an error in the article. Get over yourself!! OK, sorry it was not your department that was mentioned!! Are you happy now??

That's Capt. Dolan of the Wilmington Fire Dept., not NHC Fire. It's only written all over the trucks and gear...
