NAVASSA -- A fire tore through a Brunswick County family's home yesterday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the call around five p.m. Sunday in the 200-block of Broadway Street in Navassa. By the time fire crews arrived flames had partially engulfed the house. Firefighters from Navassa, Winnabow and other agencies were called in to fight the blaze. No one was home at the time. Homeowner Ruby Brown says watching her house on fire was difficult, but she's thankful no one was hurt. Brown said, "I know that the Lord will help me. And no body got hurt so that's a big thing. We can get another house, you can't get another life, but you can get another house." Investigators are still trying to determine the cause. They say it started in a separate building on the property and spread to the house and garage.
