FIRST ON 3: Senator-elect Goolsby on city's legislative agenda ... "Ain't gonna happen."

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Just like any big business, the City of Wilmington will lobby the state legislature next year when it begins its session. There'll be a big difference though. For the first time in more than 100 years, Republicans will run the show.

City Manager Sterling Cheatham put together a wish-list to present to the local legislative delegation. Some of the highlights include:

> An option to raise sales tax for transportation projects
> Assist the city to fund the Cape Fear Skyway
> Protect the city's right to annex
> Charge bars an extra fee to offset extra security
(Click here to see the whole list: http://wilmington.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=25&clip_id=2400&me...)

WWAY's Katie Harden took the list to Senator Elect Thom Goolsby this morning and showed it to him for the first time. His first response... "Ain't gonna happen."

See what else he and city leaders have to say about the list coming up today on WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 5 & 6.

I guess his parents knew he would go into government work when they named him. He is just another TOOL in the works to tax and land grab. He wants sales tax, charge bars a tax and take more property. He can't manage what Wilmington currently has, why the hell should we let you get more?

Truly amazing... our City Manager, a career bureaucrat with an academic credential that didn't even exist a generation ago wanting to protect the unconscionable notion of involuntary annexation, raising sales taxes AND charging businesses original fees.

Apparently, Mr. Cheatem wasn't awake when he was taking his classes at fancy government school where they covered the notions of responsibility and balancing a budget.

When the money dries up maybe, just maybe, some of the useless "hangers on" will get tossed and government will be driven back to its duty of providing ESSENTIAL services.

They named him Sterling, not Cheatham. Nice try though.

And his last name is what he is... a cheat. He most certainly doesn't come close to being sterling.

Good for Senator Goolsby-I know why i now voted for this man. Finally someone to stand up to the city of wilmington and their bullying annexation tactics. Guess what Wilmington and New Hanover, you are going to have to balance a budget now. Imagine that.

That is right Wilmington , there is a new sheriff in town . Conservative government that will pass legislation to stop land thievery and the Sky in the Pie bridge are hopefully at the forefront of his Mr. Goolsby's agenda. The INCOMPETENT Sterling Cheatham needs to take his wish list to Santa Claus ( OBAMA ).
