READ MORE: FIRST ON 3: Wrightsville Beach peeper pleads guilty

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A man accused of secretly video taping numerous women and men in Wrightsville Beach has pleaded guilty. Johnny Wayne Alford owned up to his actions, pleading guilty to one count of attempted first-degree burglary and 23 counts of secret peeping.

Alford was sentenced to a maximum of ten-and-a-half years in prison. He'll serve at least eight years. As part of the plea deal Alford will also be entered into the national sex offender registry for 30 years.

During today's hearing Alford addressed the courtroom. While tearing up, he said, "I do want to apologize to everyone."

Also in tears inside the courtroom was Alford's mother, who was there to support her son.

"I'm not saying what he did was right, but like I said, he's a troubled individual," Virginia Pender said. "He's my son. I love him."

During today's hearing Alford's attorney said her client had been a victim of physical and sexual abuse when he was younger. She requested that Alford receive treatment while serving his time. The judge agreed.

i personally know him.

he deserves 50 yrs for things hes done that he isnt charged for!

You can embarrass somebody

You can embarrass somebody but not hurt them and get 8 years. Drive high on drugs, kill somebody, and leave the hospital and drive away. Something is very wrong hers.

Ridiculous

I'm not condoning his actions, but it's ridiuclous that his guy has to go to jail for so long for just peekin' at womenfolks when I know of a guy in brunswick county recently who KILLED someone in a car crash while under the influence of drugs, and he only got 3.5 years in prison.

Look at his past and might

Look at his past and might see why!

It's the attempted 1st

It's the attempted 1st degree burglary that carries the most time. It's my understanding that the burglary charge came because he attempted to break into the occupied dwelling of one of the girls he was peeping on. What do you think he would have done to the "womenfolk" inside if he had successsfully broken in? At the very least, she probably would been raped. I think that's worth 8 years in prison.

They BOTH need to be in prison

Drunks and sexual predators, they both pose a risk to society.

Mister Peepers may not seem like much of a threat now, but these people usually get bolder and bolder. You'll note that he was convicted of a burglary - he had mustered enough courage to actually break into a house to open blinds.

Eventually, some woman may "invite him in" (but only in his sick, twisted mind) and we might be dealing with a sexual assault.

Like many sexual perversions, the thrill fades from routine, and they have to keep looking for new and bigger thrills. I recall one from many years ago in Craven County who graduating from peeping to breaking in and stealing underwear. He then started writing notes to one of his victims, expressing his deep love for her. (Which proved to be his undoing)

No woman should have to put up with that kind of harrassment and terror. Send him to Raleigh Central, where he can peep at Bubba in the shower.

Perhaps

While others (esp DWI and white collars) get off easy, this guy probably got exactly what he should have. Even his mom says he's disturbed. This may be a case of preventing something even worse from happening.

I for some reason don't think the judge would throw the maximum sentence if he was merely getting his rocks off.

If he got

an 8+ year active term, the Bridge Jumping Huffer, and those other DWI offenders should get even more stict active sentences.

Well Said

So true.
