Health center wellness fair

READ MORE: Health center wellness fair
Promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness is the name of the game nowadays. A local health center right here in Wilmington took the day to offer free health screenings to the public as part of their first wellness fair. Althea Johnson is the director of the center. "We are offering free HIV testing, free cholesterol screening, free diabetes screening, as well as blood pressure." The free services helped many people who ordinarily can't pay for doctor's visits. "That's one of the growing numbers in the United States, people who don't have any insurance. We offer people to come here if they have insurance or even if they don't have insurance," said Johnson. That's just what the center does. They provide services to people who are either suffering from an illness, or looking for preventative care. Johnson says, "People need to have a regular doctor, a primary care physician. they don't need to always go to the emergency room every time they are sick with a cold, or anything else. you need someone who is monitoring your health care based on what your age is ongoingly, and we want to be that for people." The event hoped to educate the public on the services they offer, while entertaining the crowd with some music, dancing, and free food. Organizers say the fair was a step forward to creating a healthier community.

Health Fairs

With the increasing number of uninsured and underinsured many people are turning to the excellent services available at health fairs to meet their preventive health needs. Unfortunately, not everyone has the open time to visit the events. There are also FDA-approved home testing kits for a variety of conditions. They are available at many pharmacies and on-line home health screening companies.
