Flavor of the Past Tour

READ MORE: Flavor of the Past Tour
Later this month, you will have a chance to take a tour through historical sites in downtown Wilmington while treating your taste buds with the sixth annual flavor of the past tour. WWAY will feature different stops along the tour this week. Today the focus is the Bellamy Mansion. It is easy to walk into Bellamy Mansion in Wilmington and get a sense of what it was like to live in another era. The Flavor of the Past Tour hopes to evoke that feeling at six locations around the city. The theme is 'Boom Times in a Boom Town,' focusing on our prosperous history. Visitors will be transported back in time with a taste from the past. Jacob Rudolph of the Cape Fear Museum said, "The idea was to bring some historical entertainment for people so they can kind of get a snapshot of some of the historical sites in Wilmington, and also get a taste of some of the local restaurants as well." In the 1850's, the Bellamy's symbolized local prosperity. The family owned a home that at the time cost an astounding $50,000 dollars. They were also one of the first families to have electric lighting. Bellamy Mansion volunteer, Tom Behm says the tours are a perfect opportunity to experience history in our own backyard. "Lots of times, people within about a 75 mile radius that don't really realize it, so Flavors of the Past has been wonderful," said Behm. Food combined with history will make for one entertaining event. The tour also includes Thalian Hall, the Latimer House, the Cape Fear Museum, the Pilot House and the William J. Price House. Flavor of the Past is Saturday, August 23rd. 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Flavor of the Past tickets are $40 through August 8th. Call 910-798-4362.
