Next week is National Influenza Vaccination Week, and the State of North Carolina is providing free flu shots to avoid another wave of H1N1. The New Hanover County Health Department will give free seasonal and H1N1 flu shots next week. Starting Monday, people can walk-in or make an appointment to receive the vaccinations.

The Health Department says the spread of H1N1 is likely to continue, so it's important to act on this opportunity to get vaccinated.

"People are getting a little complacent, and maybe the majority of the people that really wanted it have already gotten it," said the Health Department's Janet McCumbee, "but we would encourage everybody in the community to get their flu shots, because we still have plenty of vaccine, and we want to remind them you can get the flu in February, March."

The vaccinations will start Monday and run through Saturday or until the health department runs out of vaccine. To make an appointment call 798-6646.
