HOLDEN BEACH -- A former Holden beach police officer has been arrested himself on a brutality charge. The Brunswick County district attorney says Officer Daniel Gray was re-adjusting David King's handcuffs when the two got into a scuffle in November. King suffered facial fractures. Officer Brannon Gray

Has anyone heard what is going on with this? It sure got hush hush..makes you wonder.

Brutality by police....

I don't know all of the facts here, the same as the rest of you. I can only say that police officers have to go through an awful lot every day to do their jobs. They never know what is behind those tinted windows when they pull a car over in the wee hours of the morning, is it a shotgun pointed at them, a knife, 4 willing to jump out and assault? They never know....They never know what they will encounter when they answer a domestic violence call, each county 911 only receives about 200-300 of those calls per night. The police are under a tremendous amount of constant pressure, not to even mention changing shifts every 28 days or so and having to constantly adjust their sleeping patterns. I'm not trying to justify police brutality by any means, I'm only saying that if I had to deal with the total a-holes the police have to, I wouldn't last a day. I wish good luck to this officer, hope that he used appropriate judgement and can continue his work. I'm not a criminal, but my experience has shown me that unless you give an officer a big reason, they will not resort to force of any kind.

do you have it i would love to see the video?!?!?!

A Brunswick County woman

A Brunswick County woman whom law enforcement officers say rammed two police cars on N.C. 87 Thursday afternoon after a chase was being held on $50,000 secured bond Friday night. Brunswick County sheriff's deputies charged Megan Lynn Edmondson, 19, with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, both felonies. She is also charged with failing to heed lights and sirens and reckless driving to endanger. Edmondson, of North Atlantic Avenue, Southport, hit a Brunswick County Sheriff's Office car head-on. Authorities said Deputy Brannon Gray was taken to the hospital as a precaution but did not suffer any serious injuries. Boiling Spring Lakes police first responded to the call, which led to a high-speed chase. Edmondson also struck a Boiling Spring Lakes police car during the pursuit, and additional charges will be filed by that agency, deputies said.

Officer Brannon Grey

Where can you watch the video of the arrest, I would like to see it.

I would like to know what

I would like to know what "King" was in the backseat for to begin with... he may just deserve what he got!!

Arrested police officer

Well, I guess his arrest says it all! Believe me, no district attorney is going to put his political ambitons on the line for anyone without having evidence...they probably have statements from the other officers by now. There is a former bad cop named Robert Davis who wrote a book called COP OUT. His web site is www.authorsden.com/copout. This guy "outs" all bad cops. He tells about all their dirty secrets. He only speaks about BAD cops so those who are respectors of good cops don't worry. Matter of fact, we should all be haters of bad cops, right?

Hello

You obviously are not from Brunswick County. You would be suprised about what DA's do.

Gray

Brannon will get his day in court. I hope based on what I know and heard he will be found not guilty and come out of this with a lesson learned. I cant help but think there is some sort of a witch hunt going on, maby not but something smells fishy. With so many other officers present that night, one would think if Brannon was using excessive force they would have jumped in and prevented it. If it ends up Brannon is found guilty of it, the other officers involved deserve punishment for imappropriate action. And on a side note, I seen in the paper this week that the Town officials commented on this matter stating embarassment and damage to reputations...Based on that comment, I think the PD needs a cleaning up. I personally observed another PD officer act inappropriate on a number of occasions. He is a veteran officer and knows better. So, lets look at and remedy the underlying issues at the PD. Maby Brannon learned bad things from the other officers.

Officer Grey

How can any of you support what this Officer did to a human being. All of you need help.

Are you serious?

So according to you, law enforcement officers are not human beings? Why don't you put yourself in his shoes and think about you boneheaded thoughts. Now standing in those shoes that you can never possibly fill, your doing your job as an officer, this person you know nothing about is trying to hurt or kill you, you may not not make it home to see your family ever again because of this one bonehead, what are you going to do? All officer put their lives on the line to serve YOU, some of which never make it home. And all you boneheads want to do is bash them instead of thank them, but yet when they get the call they still come to YOUR aid. Wake up and get over your boneheaded self.

Officer Grey

Who are you trying to kid? Officers face danger from criminals everyday and they do not beat them within half an inch of their life. So please, you get over yourself. Grey is a blackeye to every decent law enforcement officer on the street today and he should be ashamed of himself for acting like this. Oh, one more thing...law enforcement does not serve me a darn thing. They are paid to do a job, if they do not like it..CHANGE JOBS.

Guestjjj

You take what the paper has to say as a word from the Bible. Before you condemn this officer why not wait for all the facts to come out. The paper "forgot" to report how the prisoner injured another officer and Gray was trying to assist the officer. No where was it reported that the officer continued to hit the prisoner after he was under control.

Know the facts first

Why don't you wait for all the facts to come out before you pass judgement yourself. According to some reports, this officer was assisting another officer with a very unruly prisoner that had just injured another officer. Maybe this prisoner kept resisting and continued to attack the officers. If other officers came forward about the abuse why didn't the paper print those officers names? I wonder why the paper refused to print all the facts? This is the problem with newspapers and the media, they would rather print a fraction of the truth than the whole truth if it's going to make them money. Another lousy job by WWAY and their reporting

Mr. Gray

I am truly ticked off now. I have had as much as I can take. Please forgive me as I step on some toes. I wish everyone would not jump to conclusions until you have all your facts straight. First, I have know "Brannon" for years and I would like to say that he is not the type to beat someone to the point that they need medical treatment. I think there needs to be more investigating done before everyone makes a big mistake. I feel so sorry for Brannon and his family. May God be with them through this hard time.

Deputy Gray

For your information, I live on wolfridge road. I have seen this Deputy get out of his car and play basketball with the children in the neighborhood and I have seen this Deputy chase on foot and / in his patrol unit some of the riff raft. I watched him chase, Cordell Stokes and Oakie Powmore which are family. They both were arrested. Neither one were beat. Both were chased on foot by Deputy Gray. Now that being said neither one from their stories tried to assault Deputy Gray. I see Deputy Gray as a well controlled officer that I am proud to have as a public servant. He wasn’t all high and mighty acting as some of the other officers are. He treated the situation, not the individual; and it didn’t matter which side of the line you’re on. He made a difference here and my kin folk say he had made a difference in Longwood too. Now, my story may not hold any clout with some of you because I’m on the short end of the stick. Deputy Gray is an out going Deputy that loves his job. So from club undaground, we thank you for your services to our community Deputy Gray and as hard as is maybe, try to keep faith.

How can you defend? His own

How can you defend? His own co-workers reported they thought he used excessive force? He was speeding through BSL putting people's lives at risk! Another officer reported that. It's not the general public that's reporting him,it's the police!

Where did speeding come from?

This is the first I have read about him speeding anywhere...and having another officer turn him in for it. Do you have a link to this story or are you just making it up to make this officer look even worse? I bet it's the latter

Speeding

Deputy Gray was clocked by a BSL officer traveling 113 in a 45, he was not responding to a call. It was reported in the State Port Pilot, not made up.

How do we know he wasn't

How do we know he wasn't responding to a call. Exactly how would you get this information? It wasn't published in the papers. This would be an internal disciplinary action that wouldn't be known to the public. So I still doubt your sources and your information

Ex-Holden Beach Officer

It is a shame to see Mr. Gray's career go down the drain due to a bad decision. He is a nice young man who made a bad decision as we all have done at least once in our life. Anybody can get caught up in a moment and let their actions run wild. It's also a shame that people who serve the community never get the support they truly deserve (especially in a situation like this). Yet when the people of the community are in trouble they expect those who protect and serve to come running to their rescue!! I'm not sure if Mr. Gray is innocent or guilty but either way I stand by him and those who protect and serve our community 100%.

Arrest of Officer from Holden beach

What a shame that the Southern Officers do not receive the proper training. When an officer has to read just a prisoners cuffs, then he should have other officers assist him and then a report should be written if a prisoner attempts to fight or do something to the arresting officer. If his cuffs were placed on his wrists and was in the proper behind the back position then this could of been avoided.I am not going to second guess the officer but I question the training of all officers involved?? If the news is going to print a story then give the full account, and not pieces to get papers sold. The officers who reported the incident should not guess but use set policy and programs of adjusting prisoners cuffs. A little more policy, program and procedue would go a long way in training and removing all doubt of practice. Each Department should have a set time for retraining on Department policies, programs and procedures. If department don't have set rules written down then its time the leader of the Department, gets them ,and then sees that his supervisors enfore them. I speak with experience as a former officer and 25 years of training officers and supervisors in the academys and colleges.

Concern

Why were the other Officers that witnessed this concerned that he had used excessive force.

holden beach police officer

In this situation he may or may not be guilty however, I was personally harassed and also another person I know was harassed by this officer. So, whether he is guilty or not he deserves what he is getting.

Malicious Conduct by a

Malicious Conduct by a prisoner is a felony. I hope they also charge him with resist and assault on LEO. They should throw the book at King. What a waste of life. And now he is trying to take away someone else's life

Once Again...

A power obsessed cop crosses the line.

News Flash

Once again the press has printed or released information without researching the entire story. I believe you'll find that Mr.Gray was actually rendering aid to another officer who had stopped at a local buisness to make adjustments to Mr.Kings handcuffs. Ask yourselves this if that much of the story is already false this early in the going, how much more should we actually believe?
