Former NC police chief sues over civil rights

READ MORE:
GREENSBORO -- The former police chief in Greensboro has sued the city, saying his civil rights were violated when he was forced out of office. The News & Record of Greensboro reports that former chief David Wray said in the lawsuit filed last week in Guilford County Superior Court that he was pushed out because he is white. Wray resigned in 2006. The lawsuit also names city manager Mitchell Johnson, who said he hasn't seen the lawsuit and couldn't talk about it. But Mitchell said he followed the city's personnel policy in handling Wray. Wray left the city after allegations arose of racial profiling in the police department. The lawsuit said Johnson tried to discredit Wray as a racist. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
