Former NC town manager turns himself in to police

READ MORE:
PRINCEVILLE, N.C. -- The former manager of the first North Carolina town established by blacks has surrendered to police following a weeklong manhunt. The Rocky Mount Telegram reported that 61-year-old Sam Knight turned himself in to the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Department Monday on a probation violation charge. The former Princeville town manager pleaded guilty in September to obtaining property by false pretense and was sentenced to more than two years probation. Knight was accused of sending more than $25,000 to a nonexistent construction company for unfinished work following Hurricane Floyd in 1999. He resigned in August. Princeville is a town of about 2,000 established at the end of the Civil War. It was mostly destroyed by flooding after Hurricane Floyd, then rebuilt.
