Fort Bragg to take part of pilot to convert waste

FORT BRAGG -- Fort Bragg has been selected to take part in a national pilot program to convert wood chips and cardboard into diesel fuel. The Army post is one of six installations that will take part in the two-year program sponsored by the Defense Energy Security Command. Fort Bragg's environmental chief Dave Heins said Wednesday the post always is seeking ways to reduce the amount of waste it handles. Heins said this project would take the post's waste products and make fuel for combat vehicles. Other posts participating in the pilot are Fort Drum, N.Y.; Fort AP Hill, Va.; Fort Stewart, Ga.; Fort Lewis, Wash.; and Fort Benning, Ga. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
