Some people spent this Fourth of July fishing, and for good reason. North Carolina law states that every Fourth of July, anyone can fish for free in all public fishing waters across the state. The law was passed 15 years ago to promote the sport of fishing. Fishermen say the free day was a treat. “At this day and time, I have for kids so any price is too high, but we make due in compliance of the law,” said James White of Watha. Annual saltwater fishing licenses are 15 dollars for state residents, and 30 dollars for non-state residents. License holders must be 16 or older.

Sunday fishing

Why can't the law be changed to every Sunday you can go fishing without a license. I would love to take my children fishing every now and again. But I'm not gonna pay an annual fee to take my children 4 times out the year fishing either. What happened to the good ol'days. Going on a beautiful summer afternoon with fishing pole in hand sitting on the bank of the river. Hearing the birds sings, fish jumping, the sound of dragonfly wings fluttering, crickets chirping and the river flowing. The splash of a rock, the splash of a fish jumping, the sound of peace. The smile on a child's face when they get a tug on their line, the determination to reel in the big 4inch baby fish. The feeling of being a hero as they release the baby fish back to its family in the water. Come on government give us some family time back at no expense.

Money

The Democrats running this State found they could make money on fishing.
