Friday brought another large turnout for voting

READ MORE: Friday brought another large turnout for voting
Election Day is just 4 days away and Friday brought another large turnout for early-voting. Tomorrow is the last day of early-voting. Large turnouts at the polls have caused several counties to extend the deadline to meet the demand. With all the talk about the heavy turnout for this year's elections, many voters made sure they were prepared before getting in line. Josh Harris said, “I came by here yesterday and saw the huge line. I just drove by because I didn't have my ipod and I needed something to do while I was waiting in line.” Another early voter, Gerri Barnes, said, “I asked and they said it was going to be an hour and twenty minute wait. I don't like to waste time and I love to read, so it seemed like I could kill two birds with one stone.” Some even tried voting in groups. “I brought two of my teammates with me so I will probably just end up talking to the two of them,” said Kevon Moore. But it was not enough to overcome the slow moving crowds. Kevon later said, “Seeing as they're looking like they're kind of bored right now, I am glad I did bring my things.” Some of the voters tried to play analyst to help pass the time. Bob McLaughlin said, “We'll probably see the largest vote in American history.” Early voting numbers in our area suggest that might just be the case. According to the Board of Elections, New Hanover and Brunswick counties turnout has already more than doubled their previous records. In Bladen and Columbus counties the turnout is already 3 times larger than they have ever seen. But Pender County has seen the greatest increase in early voters, with a turnout more than 4 times its largest turnout. Despite the numbers, voters found some polling places like North Brunswick High School had almost no wait. “I was expecting a lot longer lines. I had seen reports and heard stories that people were lined up outside the doors and to expect it to take up to an hour,” said Mike LaBelle. There was no such luck for those in at the Cape Fear Community College polling location. Bladen, Columbus, and Pender counties will push back early-voting deadlines to 5:00 p.m. Saturday to help with the larger turnout. Brunswick and New Hanover counties will keep the original deadline of 1:00 p.m. For more information on polling locations you can visit our One-Stop Voting locations page.

Obama and your electric bill

Enter "You Tube Obama Coal" into your search engine, and listen to any of several videos in which Obama lays out his plan to destroy the American coal industry and drive you electric bill through the roof with a system of carbon caps and trades. You people have no idea what a nightmare you are bringing upon the United States.

It will

take a generation, or longer, to undo the damage this man could cause in 4 long years. He will destroy the American Way in which hard work and diligence could allow someone to achieve in life whatever one's dreams are. That "Way" is what brought so many thousands to our shores in pursuit of a better life. But now, it would be replaced with a system in which hard work merely feeds and houses those who choose not to work. What's next? A Presidential Pardon for Osama bin Laden just before he is appointed Secretary of Defense or Head of Homeland Security?

I went to early voting on

I went to early voting on Wedsnesday. I live in Jacksonville and we have four early voting places. I went around lunchtime and I assumed I would be standing in line a while. There was about ten cars in the parking lot, and about six election officials inside. I got in, voted, and was out in ten minutes so it is a surprise to me to see the lines in these pictures. I thought we were a battleground state so it really surprised me to see no lines here.

I voted yesterday with my 18 year old daughter. It was so nice to see people of all ages interested in making a change. It doesn't matter who you are voting for. That is your choice but do it. I was very proud of my daughter she made her own choice. GO VOTE. what a country we live in that we can do this freely,

Sounds like you have some serious physological issues Guest456. Is it that you are afraid of CHANGE? And weather you are or not, back off! People have the right to choose to vote for whom they think would be the better choice for President. Do us all a favor and leave us alone. Let us exercise our right to vote for whom we think will get the job done. AFter all, it's our choice not yours. Stop violating! Now, have a nice day :)

you kidding me? SERIOUSLY? HOW can you make a good choice for Obama...WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE me some things OBAMA has done as a Senator? He hasn't done ANYTHING...and his VOTING RECORD on the floor goes AGAINST what is coming out of his mouth running for President...God help us IF this goes down, but if it shows how UTTERLY STUPID the citizens of this country have become...Charles Manson would be for change too...we know more about him than we do Obama!

Actually there were 443 murders in Chicago in 2007 (population: 2,800,000) There were 213 in Phoenix AZ (where McCain is from) in 2007 (population: 1,500,000. Do the math, its about the same.

you should look at your math again. There is a significant variance between the 2 in favor of Phoenix.

Night of the Socialist (brain) Dead

It's a scary Halloween, kiddies! The Obama Zombies are prowling the streets, in some kind of hypnotic trance. They don't care about his voting record. They don't care about his past words, spoken and written. They only care about what he says right now, this minute. They WANT to believe that he's a changed man. They WANT to believe he suddenly supports the Second Amendment. They WANT to believe that he'll only increase taxes on the wealthy. (Ah, but what is "wealthy," my child?) Watch their sunken, lifeless eyes, as they moan softly, "Obaaaaamaaaaaa...Obaaaammaaaaaa.....chaaaaaaange..." They are here to feast on your WALLET....

The Liberals are clueless!

These people are truely brainwashed by his political SERMONS! They don't realize that there is NO substance in what he is preaching to them. -- God help us all if he gets elected!

Wow, a bunch of angry people. Be mad that McCain has no plan or message. I'm a republican, and at least Obama is trying. McCain is spending his campaign money whining about Obama. They both offer more than they can deliver, one at least offers hope, the other offers fear. I decided to take hope and vote for Obama.

doesn't have a message either....he is just saying what people want to hear! I like the whole...95% of Americans a tax break....95% of Americans DON'T he is going to be giving those who DON'T PAY TAXES a pay check from those who DO! In ANY OTHER ELECTION the fact that his words go AGAINST what he has ACTUALLY VOTED FOR and the fact he was a drug user would be a HUGE DEAL...let McCain be found to have attended a church full of HATE for government and the media would have flipping CRUCIFIED HIM!

So, you're a Republican...

...who believes in complete gun control and higher corporate taxes? You're a Republican who suddenly thinks Karl Marx may have been right? (Obama himself admits that he has always been drawn to Marxists and Marxism in his own book.) So if you once WERE a Republican, it's obvious that you are either no longer a Republican or never took the time to research who you were voting for.
