Hoggard High School is on a roll. The Vikings won the Mideastern Conference last week with a win over archrival New Hanover. The Vikings get to keep bragging rights for one more year as well. "I actually grew up with a lot of people from the New Hanover team, but during the football season we don't communicate at all because we're rivals,” said Hoggard’s running back Rashaad McDonald. In Round one of the playoffs, Hoggard will be at home to start the 4-AA playoffs. They will play the Cary Imps. "Cary is 5 and 5. They're a wing-tee team and that type of offensive scheme has given us trouble in the past. They play a 3-5 on defense," described Hoggard head coach Scott Braswell. The New Hanover Wildcats are in the 4-A bracket. New Hanover's goal is to rebound from the Hoggard loss and be ready to play their best football of the season at Legion Stadium against Holly Springs. New Hanover head coach Kevin Motsinger said, "They've got the best running back we've played against all year long. They've got him listed as 5-7, 207. He's nothing but thighs and butt. He can flat gettie up and go." On the 3-AA level, the West Brunswick Trojans host Chapel Hill Friday night. Whiteville and East Bladen both have home games on the 2-A level. The 1-AA bracket features a match-up of two squads from our area. The East Columbus Gators will be looking for their first ever football playoffs win. The Gators host the Trask Titans and that's just a portion of Friday's action. For a complete recap of first round playoff action, tune into the 11pm newscast and the 5th Quarter show.
