Two Wilmington adult day care facilities facing budget cuts will get the funding they need. On Friday, the New Hanover County Department of Social Services announced it will come up with about $20,000 to get both Elderhaus and Adult Day Care Services through the fiscal year. Inez Weston's husband George has been under the care of the staff at adult say services for more than a year. State funds, administered through county DSS, pay for his five-day-a-week supervision. Without it, Weston said, providing constant care would be a struggle. “It really would hurt me and George. I would tell you that much cause I would have to do everything myself.” George is one of the facility's seven state funded clients. Thursday, the county told administrators it would not be able to fund them trough the fiscal year. Elderhaus, another adult day care facility got the same news. Combined, the two facilities care for 15 state funded patients at a cost of about $20,000 for the next two months. Friday, county DSS officials confirmed $23,000 will be transferred to make sure the fifteen patients will continue to get the care they need. Just where they money is coming from has not been confirmed by New Hanover County DSS.
