Gas leak at Ashley High School

Ashley high school had to be evacuated this morning after a construction crew hit a nearby gas line. Dispatch got the call around 8:30 a.m. About an hour and a half later, the mess was cleaned up and the school re-opened. The incident did throw a wrench into Cape Fear Volunteer Center's Reach theBeach program. Today volunteers were supposed to bring building supplies from Ashley to needy homes in the area. Since the school was closed, that didn't happen. The reach the beach program brings teenage volunteers from across the country to help repair homes for the needy. Anyone who wants to volunteer to help get the program back on it's feet should call 910-392-8180.
