GOP hosts candidates forum

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Voters in New Hanover County had the chance to get to know some of the Republican candidates running for office in next month's primary. County commission and school board candidates had the chance to answer questions last night.

WWAY's Ann McAdams moderated the GOP forum at the historic New Hanover County Courthouse in Downtown Wilmington. Voters say forums like this one help them make educated decisions when they head to the poll.

"It's important to me that I know who I'm voting for; not just vote for someone from a sign I've seen or something I've received in the mail, but I like to come to these sort of events, because you can talk to the person, and you can hear them as they debate what they really stand for," Pat Bumgarten said.

The primary is May 4, but early voting started last week.

There are two county commission seats up for grabs. In the school board race, there are four open seats.
