Gun scare forces tighter security at high school

WILMINGTON -- A gun scare at New Hanover High School Thursday had law enforcement stepping up security at their football game Friday night. New Hanover played at Laney Friday night. Before fans could enter the stadium they had to walk through metal detectors and were greeted by more sheriff's deputies than usual. Two different scares this week put New Hanover High School on lock-down. One of them a murder, a block from campus and minutes after school let out. Thursday someone called 911 to say there was a man with a gun on school grounds. Still, fans say they weren't scared to come out and support their team. New Hanover High School students also saw more deputies patrolling their halls Friday afternoon to make sure the campus was secure.
