Today is a special day for the World Wide Web. It is now another year older, but just how old is it? WWAY's John Rendleman asked that question to a handful of Cape Fear Community College students Wednesday. You may be shocked just how old young it is.

Al Gore invited? I remember, while he was still VP, he came to Whiteville and talked about the internet which he helped invent. He made an appearance at the Train Station while he and the family were vacationing on Figure 8 Island.

The internet (ARPAnet) was started in 1973 which linked several college campuses and research laboratories together. After about 10 years of research the internet came out in 1983 The World Wide Web was developed in 1989 by English computer scientist Timothy Berners Lee. He did it so information could be shared easier. In early 1996, the Internet connected more than 25 million computers and continues to grow. (Thanks Al Gore LOL)
