KURE BEACH, N.C. -- A North Carolina town that the mayor called "Mayberry with a beach" has banned swimmers from wearing thongs.
Kure Beach Mayor Dean Lambeth says "we're going to keep this as close to Mayberry with a beach as you can keep it," referring to the idyllic Southern community portrayed on the 1960s TV series "The Andy Griffith Show."
The Star-News of Wilmington reports that the town council voted Thursday to add a ban against the revealing swimwear to its existing ordinance against nudity.
The move came after the police chief received an e-mail earlier in the week asking if the town's existing nude bathing ordinance allowed thongs.
The ordinance bans nudity or "insufficient clothing," and the man wanted to know if thongs were allowed for both men and women.

If I call the police chief and ask him if its alright to wear a Klan outfit or a Burka to the beach, I wonder if they will pass an ordinace banning that too...
Cover Em Up
I enjoy going to this beach where it seems to be a family atmosphere beach and I would not be happy if I had to endure the backsides of people thinking that their bodies are that special that others would want to see it. If you need to expose yourself.....send a photo to Penthouse and let them judge if you have what it takes and if you do BARE IT for the ones who want to see, but not me. Keep up the good work Mayor.
Changing the law doesn't work either...
Just think about it, North Carolina, and Arizona have what is called a "Crime against Nature" law, meaning oral sex is a no-no! Yet, noone is going after John Edwards, even though they got him on video tape!

Government butting in again.
Here is another fine example of the government butting in again and taking away peoples rights. Why can we not just allow certain areas of the beach for the thong lovers? Instead they rule "NO Thongs allowed". When did the government have the right to tell one what he or she can wear? Next thing you know, you will have to wear pants and t-shirts before going to the beach. They are not asking to go nude at the beach! The thongs are like smoking in a resturaunt, if you have a section for it and I chose to go into that section, then I deserve what I get. I do not smoke and I had no problem with smoking and non-smoking sections. Our rights as citizens are slowly but surely being taken away. It's time to put our foot down.

Thank you Mayor, honestly, I have two young boys and when someone walks by with 99% nudity, they look close enough to naked. And the fact that people want to chanllenge that is so ignorant in my opinion. We all know that a thong reveals 99% of your bum. The courts should get the nerve up to call it innapropriate because it is. Go be naked or show all your stuff in your backyard. On the flip side, those who dress like that want to look as close to naked as possible so they maximize their nudity to the limit, and they wont even argue that, so why should we expect or want the court to excuse them. A time and a place people. If someone wants to burp in a restaurant, we hope they cover their mouth, there is no law saying you cannot walk up to someone and stand there burping. So what makes people not do it? It is offensive. And so is looking at someone's nude bottom. This country is awesome and we should hold up this country by standing up for values. Why should we protect people who want to walk around 99% naked, when children are being exposed. If people want to say who cares, let them look at it, they are the ones that just go with the flow to the extreme, and why should that be considered what is right?

Then change the state law
The NCGS clearly define what constitutes inecent exposure, and butt cheeks don't qualify. If you want to work on getting the law changed, fine. Until it IS changed, it stands as written and Hick Beach will lose in court, just as Wrightsville Beach did.

Wrightsville Beach tried this exact same thing about ten years ago and it was struck down in court.

Hoe is a garden implement. Ho is popular slang for a gansgsta's (another slang) girlfriend, a girl/woman who has no respect for herself and wears improper clothing. And not necessarily someone who sells their body for something of value which is a whore and probably where it came from.
But I don't know if I would describe a female wearing a thong a ho. From a chronological (how long time has past) standpoint, America is a young country of a couple hundred years, somewhat like adolescents on the world stage. Unlike countries of Asia and Europe that have been in existence for thousands of years. And we think we are going to tell a couple of tribes in Iraq that they can't fight when they have been doing it for thousands of years.
While in the Navy I stopped in Spain and France. By virtue of traveling by boat, we were near the coast and beaches when we stopped. On a beach in Cannes, France there were thongs everywhere. Not to mention woman and young girls (maybe 12 or 14) topless. Also on the beach was the guy in jeans and a black Led Zeppelin t-shirt taking a picture of a topless woman laying out with a camera that had a foot-long lens and he was only a few feet away. To the Europeans it was no big deal, God made the human body, why be ashamed of it blah, blah, blah.
Seeing that guy taking the picture made me think that the adults (Europeans) are out enjoying the beach and the toddler (Americans) who has never seen a naked woman before. It may be a couple of hundred more years before it is acceptable for a woman to go topless on a beach in the states because of public opinion. But her doing so does not make her a ho. For the record 'cause I know the comment's coming. "No", I would not want my girlfriend in thong or topless on the beach. Not to oppress her, only because men are too immature to handle it.

Because noone wants to step in dogs feces when lazy owners cover it up with sand on a hot day...It's like tourists that feed the birds, they think it's hillarious, but the other people next to you don't like getting crapped on.
THONG RULING
This thong ban is not all its cracked up to be. Being nude is one thing, butt having each bunn in the sun may be viewed by a judge as a civil right. Without being too cheeky, this ban will bottom out if tested in court. Regulating the "appropriateness" of clothing is a difficult legal task, besides some people may need comfy clothes will searching for booty....treasure.
This May Not
be such a bad thing. Unfortunately, there have been occasions when little has been called upon to cover more than intended. Several times I've wanted to know the name of the cloth manufacturer; they clearly have a strong tensile strength & expansion ability which might make the manufacturer of the material a worthy investment.
