HEAT ADVISORY in effect today


WILMINGTON - The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 90s...except lower 90s
closer to the coast...and modest relative humidities...except
higher closer to the coast...will combine to produce heat indices
that surpass 105 degrees during this afternoon.

Isolated thunderstorm activity along the sea breeze could provide some
temporary relief from the heat. More widespread thunderstorm and
shower activity is not expected until late this afternoon and

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures
is expected. If working or venturing outside this afternoon
...drink plenty of fluids...wear light weight and light colored
clothing...take frequent breaks in the shade or a well ventilated

Check up on the elderly and children on a regular basis...and
provide a well ventilated area and available drinking water for
pets and livestock. Never leave children or pets unattended in
