Parts of our area are drying out this morning after more high water along the coast Tuesday night. In Carolina Beach, unusually high tides have caused flooding for a second straight night. Water covered Canal Drive for a 7 block stretch due to several environmental influences. It was not unexpected but causes problems as the water comes up through the storm sewer and drains. Wilmington’s Arianna Torello said, "We were really surprised. We were about to go to the carnival. We looked at our neighbors and the water was up to their staircase and we said, ‘Oh my gosh’. We then looked over there and the road was totally flooded." "It's a nightmare. There's nothing you can do to stop it. Just put all your electronics, all your furniture on blocks and hope and pray it doesn't go into your house," said Nathan Young of Carolina Beach. Carolina Beach Police warned motorists not to drive down Canal Drive. That forced some people to walk through the water or find a detour.
