Highway Patrol honors area troopers for service

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Highway Patrol has honored three area troopers.

First Sgt. A.E. Morris, who led troopers in New Hanover County before moving up the coast this fall, received the Meritorious Service Award. The Highway Patrol said Morris led by example during a week-long DWI crackdown back in April.

Trpr. Calvin Lewis received the Samaritan Service Award. In July he was off duty at the beach at Fort Fisher, when he saved a young girl who was caught in a rip current.

Trpr. Lucas Hardee, who works in Bladen County, received the Samaritan Award. Back in April, he was on vacation in Myrtle Beach with friends, including some fellow troopers. He used the Heimlich maneuver to help save a man choking in a restaurant.
