More properties in historical downtown Wilmington will be preserved forever. Eleven historical home owners in downtown Wilmington have made legal agreements with the historic Wilmington foundation to protect the historical structural and design of the buildings. The easements guarantee the homes will keep their historical character, even if they're sold, or if zoning laws change. George Edwards, Historic Wilmington Foundation director explained, "A gift of an easement is a gift forever, and I think what that does is further stabilize our historic neighborhoods. It serves as a wonderful example to others rather than worry about the threats of losing historical property get involved and make a donation of an easement." Today's easement signings didn't include Chandlers Wharf, but the Historic Wilmington Foundation director is still hopeful that the building will have one in the future.
