Hoggard takes to the court for home debut

READ MORE: Hoggard takes to the court for home debut
It was the home opener for the Hoggard girl’s Tuesday night, they welcomed Topsail to Hebbe Gym. Topsail put up a valiant effort, but the night belonged to the Lady Vikes. They improved to 2-1 on the season. Head coach Ray Betty talked about the team's big 60-31 win. “We're 2-1 right now. We came out and played Kinston well, went up to Lake Norman, didn't have a great game there, but we came back tonight on our home floor. We needed some home cooking and we did well tonight.” In the night cap, it was the season debut for the Hoggard boys. Hoggard led by just four at halftime, but the three point shooting of Lawson Arhens helped the Vikes open up a double digit lead. From there it was all Stillman White and Hoggard. The Vikings guard led the way with 22 points as Hoggard went on for the 63-43 win. “We lost a lot of players this year, from last year. Everyone's getting their new roles and we were a little jittery coming out, but after the first quarter, I think we relaxed,” said White. Hoggard coach Brett Queen added, “It is nice to have a couple of guards like we have in Stillman and Lawson. They really put a lot of pressure on the defense; Stillman with being able to penetrate and also knock down shots and Lawson is one of the best shooters we've ever had.”

I agree with the other

I agree with the other comments. They never seem to show Ashley High School unless they are playing Hanover or Hoggard !!!

Can someone call the sports

Can someone call the sports police? Hoggard isn't the only high school b-ball team in the area, if your going to report make it fair to all of the young men & women who work just has hard as the Hoggard teams. THINK ABOUT IT?

EA Laney

Laney also had a game tuesday and walked away with a victory!! Vasity was at home JV away and all four teams walked away screaming VICTORY!!! GO BUCS!!! Sorry didnt see anyone mention them :-)

Even in Sports

There is always going to be bias media coverage, yes even in sports. Maybe some of the staff at WWAY are alumni, have children attending that school, or friends who work/coach there. Any number of possibilities. Fair and consistant coverage of any & all news would be nice. Just, don't hold your breath waiting for it.

I guess we will see tonight

I guess we will see tonight who gets airtime and who dosent..Im sure Hoggard will be all over the news again due to them having another home game but I'm guessing this time the caption will read, "Hoggard on their way to being state champions"..

Why is Hoggard always

Why is Hoggard always featured everywhere? there are three other high schools in this county..the star news got complaints about the lack of New hanover football coverage but yet they choose to cover Hoggard who by the way lost..Laney had a home game as well Tuesday night in which they beat jacksonville but where was the media..Can we please give other kids in this town some coverage..geez!
