Letter from Chief Meteorologist Chris PhillipsGet ready, here we go again. Hurricane season for our area starts June 1st and runs until November 30th. While last year was relatively quiet with only Gabrielle making its way to our shores, there is no guarantee that 2008 will be the same. Hurricane precautions come in many forms, but should start with a family plan as you have to put your loved ones first. This can be as simple as getting phone numbers and e-mail addresses for one or two relatives outside of the Wilmington area, writing or printing them out, and having them laminated in plastic. After Katrina, emergency workers spent months reuniting some families because they could not locate everyone. Here at WWAY TV 3, our preparations have been on-going. We installed new weather equipment including state-of-the-art ESP 3 Radar to give you the best view of the storm. Our team of meteorologists will keep you informed with up to the minute information. Our coverage will begin as soon as any storm threatens Southeastern North Carolina and will continue for as long as it lasts. That is our promise. Chris Phillips |
