RALEIGH (AP) -- Ron Francis already had the resume to make the Carolina Hurricanes better on the ice when he first signed with them nine years ago.
But to Jim Rutherford, Francis did just as much to help the franchise establish itself in a new market after relocating here from Connecticut.
Francis was selected yesterday as one of four players to the Hockey Hall of Fame. It caps a 23-year career that saw him rank as one of the league's most quietly productive players. Francis was joined by Mark Messier, Scott Stevens and Al MacInnis, as well as league executive Jim Gregory.
They will be inducted November 12th.
