Illegal immigrant who drove into DQ to be deported

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The illegal immigrant who drove his car into a Wilmington Dairy Queen back in May pleaded guilty to habitual drunk driving today and will be deported.

Isaias Martinez-Garcia, 28, has been convicted of driving while intoxicated five times. Garcia will now go to prison for more than two years and will be deported once he's released.

Assistant District Attorney Jon David says he's frustrated Garcia was not departed after his last conviction for habitual impaired driving.

"The decision of who to target in jail is a decision of INS," David said. "And frequently, unless someone is convicted of a serious felony, they don't necessarily deport them. In this particular case, I made the decision in an early stage to contact them and make a personal request to have this individual removed from our country because he's a clear and present danger."

David says he was happy to work with the federal agency to get maximum justice for the crime.

deport them

Deporting them is a joke. An illegal was just arrested in Columbus county carrying a large amount of cocaine. The real kicker is, he was deported just six weeks ago for drug charges. Another one was arrested for the same charges 3 months after he was deported and let out of prison.

He should have been deported

He should have been deported after the first time PERIOD! Try getting away with this crap in Mexico and see what happens to you!

We'll see him again soon.

If he snuck into the country once, he'll sneak back in again. We'll be seeing him around soon enough.

for 26 months or so, he gets 3 squares a day. Air conditioned accomodations. Access to all the educational opportunities afforded any other convict.

Then he gets deported.

What's next? Family visits at state expense?

They should have all types of alarms set to go off as he approaches his release date to ensure INS picks him up and sends him South.

But what gaurantee is there he will not scale the wall as soon as their backs are turned?

That being said, send him back now; don't let him have a better life at the taxpayer's expense. Plant an atomic powered body implant in him that will cause him to glow any time he is north of the border.

I say we just contract North Korea to handle all our ILLEGALS

They seem to have the b@lls required to handle problems in their country. Not to mention a spine. Kim Jung Il might be a little crazy sometimes, but we can be a bunch of Nancy's when it comes to handing out punishment too.

Not referring to undocument citizens, though, because there is no such thing. Just a PC way of saying criminal. If you walk in your yard and step in a pile of dog crap, calling it a pile of "roses" doesn't fix your problem.

Drunk is Drunk

We are talking about a drunk driver here, not undocumented immigrants, most of DWI's are committed by US Citizens. MOST of Immigrant come to this country to work, all this rhetoric only increase the level of misinformation about immigration. Stop blaming the undocumented for all the problems in this country, when in reality they are part of the solution, some good people in congress are working for a comprehensive immigration reform which included deporting criminals (by the way non of the legal or undocumented aliens condom criminality). But believe me the food in your table will be a lot more expensive without the labor of the Migrant Workers which included a lot of undocumented. If you are going to argue that please check in study done by Farmworker Union were they offer agricultural job for Americans and out of 8000 calls only 3 Americans accepted the job. Yes it is a reality an industrialized country always need low skill labor force.

Excuse me

get a grip on reality.

Go into any county health center, and the majority of "clients" are undocumented. They have no insurance; they either do not have the funds to pay or feel they are entitled to free health care.

Where do you think the funds come from to cover those expenses?

If they want to work agricultural jobs, they can do so in a legal manner. They return to their country and put their names on the list to work legally. Organizations such as the NC Tobacco Growers Association and the NC Cotton Growers Association have agreements with the Mexican Government and the NC DEpartment of Agriculture.

The laborers come to this country, legally. They are transported to Raleigh; and from there they are transported to the farm or farms on which they will work. They establish the length of time they want to be in this country and work. They are paid a fixed hourly rate and receive 3 squares a day plus housing while here. The "contracting" farmer is responsible for them and their behaviour. They have a change of heart and want to leave, the farmer calls Raleigh and they are picked up and tranported back to their homeland. At the end of the harvest season, they are picked up and transported back to Mexico. And for the record, they take nearly all of the funds they make home with them to Mexico. And their pay is not subject to state or federal taxes or social security and medicare.

Throughout the entire time they are here, NC Department of Agriculture inspectors monitor the conditions under which they work and live as well as ensure all of their funds are paid to them.

Please do not insult intelligent people with that garbage that only the illegal and undocumented are available for this work.

That is just Not the truth. And these programs are available in every state with an agricultural base of economic activity.

Sorry Guest or Pancho, your point of view is filled with holes and will not hold water.

I do agree with another poster. Let those who are physically and mentally able, and receive entitlements, go to work in the fields under the same conditions I referenced above through the NC Department of Agriculture. Good healthy exercise might do a world of good and help with our obesity problems. Hard manual labor might encourage them to get off entitlements and accept a job at Food Lion, Wal-Mart, or Sams Club.

Ship them back to Mexico and make the bums on welfare pick the food !! OR no checks this month.

We? Who is this "we"

You must be referring to yourself and the voices in your head. I, on the other hand, was referring to the fact that this guy was an illegal immigrant.

Go work on that farm you which you claim values illegal citizens work. Or go back to Mexico.

"But believe me the food in your table will be a lot more expensive without the labor of the Migrant Workers which included a lot of undocumented"

You seem to be missing the idea that these people DON'T PAY TAXES and GET FREE HEALTHCARE. So maybe in all your wisdom, you could consider that although they work for pennies in the field, THEY COST TAXPAYERS MONEY.

There is no benefit to having them here. Except to test the solidity of our ice cream shop structures.

So how do you get charged

So how do you get charged with driving intoxicated 5 times and still manage to drive around??? Amazing.
