Injured deputy receives "Officer Down" fund

Law enforcement officers gathered Friday to help a New Hanover County Sheriff's deputy who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident in May.

Deputy Bill Curry received the "Officer Down" fund. It was established by the Community Foundation of Southeastern North Carolina to aid police and firefighter families when a member is killed or injured in the line of duty.

Curry said he was honored by everyone who showed up.

"I thank them very much for the support they've given me and the support they gave my family during the trying time when I was at the hospital and they are still being my friends now," Curry said.

If you would like to contribute to the "Officer Down" fund, call the Community Foundation of Southeastern North Carolina at 251-3911.
