The dollar may not be doing well globally, but when it comes to education, American schooling is still at the top of the list in the international scope. UNCW has seen an increase in its international student population. During the ‘06-‘07 school year, UNCW had 150 international students enrolled. Last year, the number jumped to more than two hundred students. School officials say a lot of American students choose to study abroad, in turn, making room for the influx of foreigners. UNCW’s international student services coordinator Amy Mabery said, "They are going in because we are going out. For every student we send out on exchange, we are opening up a slot for a student to come in on exchange." Majority of the foreign students are coming in from Europe, Japan, Australia and even Central America.
