It is a green light for one city program that catches drivers who run red lights. The city's camera program will continue for another three years. Taxpayers in Wilmington and New Hanover County will help pay for new equipment to clearly identify red light runners' license plates. The city said it is an investment that will hopefully reduce car accidents. Red light violators will be receiving a fifty dollar ticket in the mail if caught on camera. City council is expected to vote on this issue Tuesday night.

Red Light Program

The red light program is a great idea. But at $50.00 per violation, "I'll run them all day long'. Make it $200.00 and I might think hard about running it. You want to fix a problem MAKE IT HURT !

I guess you've never seen

I guess you've never seen the insurance hike you get when running a red light, huh?

No hike

There isn't an insurance hike when you get a camera ticket. Since a police officer didn't write the ticket it doesn't go in as a traffic offense. What happened to the rule that 90% of the money had to go to the schools?
